Our Story
Serene Haven Independent Living was founded by two sisters, MarNae Thompson and LaShaun Canady, who share a deep commitment to community, stability, and human dignity.
As women actively pursuing nursing education and involved in community service, we have witnessed firsthand how safe housing plays a critical role in a person’s overall well-being. Too often, individuals who are capable of living independently fall into gaps between full independence and assisted care — where affordable, respectful housing options are limited.
Serene Haven was created to meet that need by offering structured, shared housing that prioritizes safety, consistency, and respect.

Who Serene Haven Is For
Serene Haven Independent Living provides independent living only. We do not offer assisted living, medical care, personal care services, or supervision of daily living activities.
Our role is to provide safe housing, clear household guidelines, and a respectful environment where adults can live independently while benefiting from consistency and community standards.
Serene Haven Independent Living is designed for adults who are:
Fully capable of independent living
Seeking a stable and affordable housing option
Interested in a calm, drug & alcohol-free environment
Willing to follow shared household guidelines
We welcome referrals from community organizations, shelters, and support programs.
